Tuesday energy

got to the gym one day this week-Tuesday! The rest of the week flew by, stayed up very late Tuesday night to finish my gardening test. That lack of sleep influenced the rest of my week. My oldest came home with a sore throat and temperature Thursday evening, and now we are all feeling a little under the weather. I think I will definitely be walking more than anything this 13.1 miles. The race is in less than a month- I feel totally unprepared, which isn't unusual for me.
also I think keeping this account wasn't such a great idea.
maybe the title should be "how not to train for 13.1" (:

see ya.

this week....

me and the gym didn't see much of each other. got lots of other stuff done though-cleaned out both the girls rooms thoroughly, our kitty had his surgery this week, lots of school activities.
got to see "gym" again.
Also got advice from a running coach, she told me that it would be best for me to walk the majority of the thirteen miles, to reduce strain and injury to my joints (I'm not a lightweight :) and that if a run a little it should be a comfortable jog. I was so glad she responded to my email.

this evening....

~did thirty minutes on the elliptical, forty five on the treadmill-then worked legs and chest on the weight machines. I think I have more energy for morning workouts.

hot yoga

Went to hot yoga this morning. Fifteen minutes into the class I remembered why its taken me so long to get back to this class, to put it mildly it's a bit challenging. The room is about 105 degrees and there are a series of poses you are to do within the ninety minute class. During the class I fought off two bouts of nausea, which happened the very first time I went too. When this happens I just sit down on my mat until the feeling subsides. After the class everyone is drenched. I love the feeling of the air as it hits my face once I leave out of the yoga studio. Being and staying hydrated is so important in this class. It doesn't sound pleasant does it, but after this class I feel so refreshed. I think I'll go to a couple of more classes next week.

when I need inspiration

When I need inspiration I will look at this video of Ida Keeling~

it seems like it doesn't take much....

to throw me off track. Really this is only the first week of preparation and I already have feelings of doubt coming on. I had a good workout day Tuesday (yesterday was my gardening class-so it was a rest day) but my knee got really itchy (I think because of the contact of the sweat and brace on my knee) later that Tuesday evening. I put some cream on it which helped and then last evening ended up taking some anti-histamines. I'm really rethinking my plan at this point. I think I'm going to focus more on strengthening my knee (through abductor and adductor execises), yoga, walking,cross-training and then build up again to the jogging.
I will see what works, and stick with that.

banana love and other thoughts

~I don't like breakfast. Really all I need is a cup of coffee and a banana. However, since I'm preparing for the walk/run I think I may need something a little more substantial-maybe two bananas? But seriously, I'm thinking maybe I need to try to get back on a smoothie kick, but I'm just not feeling it yet.

~went to the gym after I dropped off the kids at school. I wore a brace on my right knee during my workout, it helps. I also think it helps to do the elliptical before the treadmill because the elliptical gets me warmed up a bit.

~keeping hydrated with water and chia seeds-it doesn't look that pleasant when mixed together but it keeps the hydration up.

~hot yoga this week? I've been invited again, but I'm just going to think about it for now.
